This Privacy Policy explains how StudyMate AI ("we", "us", "our"), available at studymateai.edu.lk, collects and uses your information. By using the service you agree to this policy.
1. Information we collect
- Account details — your name, age, email address and WhatsApp number.
- Study content — questions you ask, notes and papers you generate, and any files (lecture notes or past papers) you upload.
- Usage & technical data — your IP address, login times and basic activity, used to run and protect the service.
- Payment data — records of credit purchases. Card details are handled by our payment provider; we do not store them.
2. How we use your information
- To provide the service — generate AI answers, notes and papers, and track your credits.
- To save your history so you can revisit and download it.
- To support you and respond to your messages.
- To prevent abuse — for example, limiting multiple accounts from the same connection (IP address).
- To process payments and add purchased credits.
3. Your uploaded files & chat history
Files you upload to your personal library are stored privately to your account and are used only to generate study help for you. We do not share your uploads or history with other users. To answer your questions, relevant excerpts of your material may be sent to our AI provider for processing (see below).
4. Third-party services
We use trusted third parties to run the service. When you use AI features, the necessary text is sent to an AI provider (for example, Google or OpenAI) to generate a response. Online payments are processed by a payment provider (for example, Dialog Genie). These providers process data under their own terms and privacy policies. We share only what is needed to provide the service.

We use a single secure session cookie to keep you logged in. We do not use advertising trackers.

We keep your account information and history while your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we will remove your personal information and uploaded files, except where we must keep limited records (for example, payment records) to meet legal or accounting requirements.
8. How we protect your data
We use measures such as encrypted (HTTPS) connections, hashed passwords, secure sessions and access controls. No online service can be 100% secure, but we work to keep your information safe. Please also protect your own account with a strong password.
